CHILD RIGHTS WEEK 2019: THE RIGHT TO PLAY

Organised in conjunction with Midlands 4 Cities DTP, in partnership with Selly Oak Nursery School and Moseley Church of England Primary School, this will be the second Child Rights Week initiative of its kind to take place in Birmingham.

The Child Rights Week will run at both Selly Oak Nursery School and Moseley Church of England Primary School from the 11th to the 22nd March 2019. The children will be learning about the ‘right to play' and the staff are already embarking on creative and child-centred initiatives to educate the children about this right. Specific in-house workshops with carefully chosen groups and organisations will be held throughout that week.

Planned activities include the following:

·         Workshops with children and parents alongside staff at Selly Oak Nursery School;

·         Activities to support The Teddy Trust, an organisation dedicated to bringing joy, happiness and play to displaced children around the world;

·         Workshops and activities for both children and parents, developed by Annamation Storytellers;

·         Workshops and activities devised by The Big Happiness Experiment with Jules Mitchell;

·          Workshops and activities devised by the Flying Seagull Project;

·         Workshops by Midlands 4 Cities PhD students and postgraduate researchers from the Children and Childhood Network at the University of Birmingham, as well as University of Birmingham undergraduate and postgraduate students in the arts and humanities;

·         Collaboration between the nursery school and the student Rights Ambassadors of Selly Park Technology College.
